A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

The Acheron Express - A train to a new life. Or, for one unlucky person, a new afterlife.

Made as part of CSCC's Game Development & Design course, The Acheron Express is currently a work in progress. Please feel free to play and leave feedback!
The game is a narrative driven murder mystery, a love letter to classic whodunits and modern branching stories.

KNOWN ISSUES:

Entering a new train car breaks the onHover and onClick sound effects.

Music and train sound effects do not play in settings menu.

Music volume slider is not functioning.

Time Skipping past hour 3 causes game to lock up.

Footstep Volume is low in some cars and louder in others.

Frame perfect bug where if you press P on the same frame where a tutorial segment loads, you enter a state where the pause menu is displaying over dialogue, and the player softlocks.

The music continues to loop when going to the main menu.

The Player's progress isn't reset when beginning the game again from the main menu.

The objective does not update until you press C again.

The Objective sometimes disappears when it should be active and visible.

DEVLOG:

New Features:

Objective marker now appears and disappears for important interactions.

More objectives for player to follow.

Removed the Journal system, due to inability to complete it to a high standard with the time remaining.

Modified the tutorial so players have to explore around the train before the tutorial ends.

Added in a few time based dialogue choices. (The people on the train now react to time passing with certain dialogue changing!)

Bug Fixes:

Train chug and music now loop.

Art style still really looks neat, though given the type of game this is, I'm actually a little concerned the talking system seems to still be having a bit of bugs with it... when I tried to follow the directions I ended up with a weird bug where it was like a conversation was trying to be there, but wasn't, and wouldn't let me do anything? but once I restarted it didn't happen... very weird.

That being said, it's really nice to see the watch being animated now. Now it just needs more interaction with the clues and journal.

Very neat graphics style! I can definitely see where it is going and it works really well. A couple bugs that will definitely want to be addressed: 1; if you are in middle of talking to someone when the first "hour" is up, it puts it back into walking mode, without clearing the text, making it impossible to interact with anything anymore. Also, if the player is turning while the player input is limited due to the "announcements" it keeps turning until the announcement is over. Also, everyone disappears after the first hour moment, not sure if that was intentional? Also, the cop placement makes it very hard to get to the door behind him... can't wait to see what you do next with it!
